Diplomatic Service

Appointments to the senior levels of the Diplomatic Service are excluded from the requirement to select on merit on the basis of fair and open competition. We note that on occasion former politicians have taken up such appointments. We see no reason why these appointments to the Civil Service should be treated differently. We believe that the principle that selection is on merit on the basis of fair and open competition should apply to these civil servants as it does to others..
