Strengthening the role

As a consequence of this very positive feedback the Commissioners will make some adjustments to how the competitions that the Commissioners chair are allocated between us. In future competitions for the most senior jobs will be offered first to the Link Commissioner for that department. There will of course be times when the Link Commissioner is not available and another Commissioner will chair a senior competition in their linked department. However we will work to ensure that Link Commissioners chair a higher percentage of the competitions in their link departments than may have been the case in the past. We will also ensure that when the Link Commissioner does not chair a competition in the linked department he or she will receive feedback from the Commissioner who does.

The Commissioners greatly value the positive relationships we have with Permanent Secretaries, Human Resources Directors and Heads of Government Professions. We are pleased that Sir Gus and his colleagues perceive such benefit in the Link Commissioner role. We will work with departments and agencies to improve and deepen these relationships.
