The Nominated Officer
The role of the Nominated Officer is that of an impartial intermediary between the individual raising a concern and other parties. If a civil servant believes that they have not received a reasonable response from their own department, they may appeal to the Civil Service Commissioners.
The Commissioners can consider appeals from civil servants direct. But we believe that it is in the best interests of all parties that difficulties should be resolved at the departmental or agency level when that is possible. Direct appeals will usually only be taken where there is a good reason why it would be difficult or impossible to exhaust departmental procedures first.
